Your Vehicle's Gaskets: What are They?

Here at Valenti Ford, our team likes to keep our customers well-informed about their vehicles. You have probably heard of gaskets, but do you know what they do? Read further to learn more about your car's gaskets.

Your vehicle's gaskets form a bond between two surfaces to prevent fluids and gasses from escaping, and they are made to withstand extreme temperatures. The most common type of material that is used to make gaskets is multi-level steel, but copper and rubber are also common materials that are used for gaskets. Head gaskets are the most common type of gasket, but there are also intake manifold gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets, and bearing gaskets.

If you notice gurgling, bubbling, or foaming under the radiator, then there may be a hole in one of the head gaskets. If you notice a substance that looks like mayonnaise when you check your oil, then you should have your vehicle inspected because this is a sign of gasket failure.
